Youth Volunteers
To protect client privacy, volunteers on shopping days must be 18 or older and out of high school. High school students in 9th and 10th grade can volunteer on sorting days with a parent or adult, while 11th and 12th graders may volunteer without one. The Volunteer Sign-Up will specify sorting or shopping days. Youth can also participate in Special Projects.
Volunteer
Lend a Hand, Make a Difference
Volunteers are an essential component in providing Arlington’s low-income schoolchildren with the clothing they need to thrive in the classroom. Our regular volunteer activities include easy-to-learn and fulfilling tasks including:
- Sorting and preparing clothing for display
- Assisting customers in the store
- Picking up clothing from drop-off locations
- Organizing clothing drives at neighborhood schools
- Administrative tasks for the store.
Please click Volunteer Sign Up to access our current volunteer opportunities on Sign-Up Genius.
Court-ordered community service: At this time we are unable to provide volunteer opportunities for court-mandated volunteer service.
Special Projects
In addition to our routine volunteer opportunities, there are often special projects for volunteers of all ages, such as:
- Organizing clothing drives and shoe drives at schools or local businesses, in scouting, with sports teams, etc.
- Hosting a fundraising event
- Liaising with local schools to pick up lost and found items, wash, sort and deliver those to The Clothesline (typically a summer project)
- Creating “period packs” for our teenage girl clients.
If you would like to host a clothing drive or have an idea for a special project to support us, please e-mail us.
Groups
Up to 10 people from businesses, clubs, congregations and community organizations are invited to serve at The Clothesline for one-time opportunities or on an on-going basis. For more information, please e-mail us.
